Jordan Shippenberg and I first met in December 1995 after Jordan saw the “cocktails” shot I did for Interview Magazine. (I was working with Richard Pandisio, Interview’s creative director at the time. Jordan was then a 24-year-old agent in the Visage Agency, which was representing Herb Ritts in Los Angeles.) Jordan formed Art Department in 1995, I think. I was the first or second photographer to join the agency, then called simply Jordan Shippenberg. It was just Jordan, his assistant Jackie, and me. At some point Jordan and I thought it would be a good idea to go to Europe to introduce myself and my work to potential clients there. We flew to Paris, went to Vogue, met Anastasia Barbieri at 20 Ans Magazine. Then we took the train to London for some more meetings. it was while we were on the train when I took this picture of Jordan. Shortly after this trip, I started to travel frequently to Europe to shoot jobs for Vichy, 20 Ans, Frank magazine, Arena Hommes Plus, and many more magazines and advertising campaigns.
